Blog Journal 1

I am a senior at Florida State University majoring in Literature, Media, and Culture with a minor in music. I'm from the Tampa bay area. I have two cats at home and my roommate at school has a dog. After graduation, I plan to become a teacher. 

In many of my classes so far I have had to do presentations. This includes the frequent use of platforms like Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi. I have a decent understanding of spreadsheet programs, but there is definitely room for improvement there. As I am an English major, I have to use Microsoft Word pretty much every day and am very comfortable doing whatever is needed within it. 

Some online resources of my personal learning network include sites and applications like YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok. I follow creators on all of these platforms who share new information with their audiences on a regular basis. One of my offline resources for my personal learning network is reading. Every month or two I try to read one non-fiction book to make sure I am always learning something new.

I think Diigo was a neat tool to learn about and start using. I like that you are able to bookmark anything and share it with others. I can't really imagine myself using this tool outside of the classroom setting, because I have other methods for bookmarking things I want to come back to, but I think it is great for use in classes. I especially like that you can add annotations to your bookmarks that the rest of your group can see. My experience with blogging so far has been a bit strange. It has always been a medium that I wasn't particularly drawn to, and I think that my lack of understanding of how it works definitely contributed to that fact. I like that you are able to go through and edit posts after they have been made since that is not something you are able to do on Twitter. I have learned a lot about blogging in this process. I think teacher pages can be incredibly helpful for students and parents. One school website from a teacher I used to take is www.sehsband.com which is the site for several high school music classes. There, students and parents can see a calendar of upcoming events along with a more detailed hourly schedule for rehearsals and performances. There are links to helpful documents and resources for both students and parents. There is also a password-protected members-only section of the site where more specific information can be found that is not available to the public.  I think using technologies like a teacher page or website would be very useful in teaching efficiently and effectively. It seems like a great way to provide useful and up-to-date information to parents and students.
