This semester I have taken EME 2040 in an asynchronous online section. So far, I have enjoyed taking this class online because I think, especially for it being a class about educational technology, it is very helpful to be learning about educational technologies while actually using them. For example, this week's topic of distance learning seems all the more impactful considering the fact that we are participating in distance learning for the course. The only thing that I think is missing from the in-person classroom experience is the level of interaction with peers. Open educational resources (OER) are resources that are available to be used by anyone for free. As long as you give credit to the creator of the resource, you can use it in whatever ways they allow. Here is an OER about Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing that is targeted for 10th grade ELA classes. This module was created and provided by Georgia Virtual School. For Assignment 4, I learned a lot about how to ...

I have used Wix before, but I have never had to make a whole website by myself. I liked how easy it was to create something with my own vision. However, some of the tools of the Wix program itself were a bit difficult to use and didn't seem very intuitive. That being said though, I really think creating a website is a great tool for teaching as it would be a great way to keep students and parents up to date on everything going on. Here is my website: https://bgeme2040.weebly.com/ I really like Diigo. I think it is a great way to save files or pages that you find interesting. I also love that you are able to annotate it and highlight it and that other people in your group can see your work. I think this would be great for having students annotate texts together collaboratively. It would be great for group projects as well. I think it is incredibly important for teachers to be up to date on technological innovation. There are new and wonderful tools to help with education that are sh...

I think teacher pages can be incredibly helpful for students and parents. One school website from a teacher I used to take is www.sehsband.com which is the site for several high school music classes. There, students and parents can see a calendar of upcoming events along with a more detailed hourly schedule for rehearsals and performances. There are links to helpful documents and resources for both students and parents. There is also a password-protected members-only section of the site where more specific information can be found that is not available to the public. I think using technologies like a teacher page or website would be very useful in teaching efficiently and effectively. It seems like a great way to provide useful and up-to-date information to parents and students. I think having a schedule with a list of assignments and due dates would be great for helping people keep track of things. It can also provide a great space for open communication if the page is set u...

I think Diigo was a neat tool to learn about and start using. I like that you are able to bookmark anything and share it with others. I can't really imagine myself using this tool outside of the classroom setting, because I have other methods for bookmarking things I want to come back to, but I think it is great for use in classes. I especially like that you can add annotations to your bookmarks that the rest of your group can see. My experience with blogging so far has been a bit strange. It has always been a medium that I wasn't particularly drawn to, and I think that my lack of understanding of how it works definitely contributed to that fact. I like that you are able to go through and edit posts after they have been made since that is not something you are able to do on Twitter. I have learned a lot about blogging in this process. I don't think I ever really realized just how many cool things you can do with this platform or others like it. One Web 2.0 tool that I migh...

Honestly, most of the time that I spend on Twitter is when I am using my personal account, so the interactions I have there are less professional. I also run the Twitter account for the Student Life Cinema on campus, so using and interacting with others there is actually my job. Unfortunately, this means I haven't had much time to really use my account for this class to its fullest extent. That being said, I fully intend to set aside time to do so in the future. The digital divide is something I brought up at the beginning of this semester when we were talking about digital natives. I didn't know what to call it at the time, but it seems very clear that not everyone is going to have the same access to the same technologies in life. The divide between what resources people have access to is impacted by many things like socioeconomic status and where they live. When teaching, it is important to give students the opportunities whenever possible to use technology, but requiring a ...

Because I want to be an English teacher, I think implementing these ELA standards will come a bit more naturally to that teaching process than it may for my peers. In the Standards and Technology Matrix for ELA (Grade 8), LAFS.8.W.3.8 details the process of using effective search terms, determining source credibility, and proper citation procedures. I feel prepared to implement this standard based on my current skill set because this is something I have to do all the time when writing research papers for my classes. I think providing this information to students is one of the most valuable resources we can give them. One of the resources I found in the CPALMS Educator Toolkit was a lesson called "Exploring Comma Usage." It included presentation slides as well as some practice examples to allow students to try out what they are learning. I think this would be a useful resource in the classroom because simple things like where or how to use punctuation like commas can often be ...
